At Pressure Fresh we specialise in the cleaning and restoration of limestone. Pressure Fresh owner, Paul, shares his experience of cleaning acid from a newly laid black limestone patio for one of our happy customers in Midhurst, West Sussex:
“As you can see from the pictures in this blog, we transformed this badly damaged black limestone patio from really awful to totally amazing!

Unfortunately, someone with very limited knowledge of how to remove slight mortar marks – which were left after the patio was laid – used the wrong chemicals to try and rectify the issue, turning what should have been a simple lime stone cleaning service into a major limestone restoration project.
On arrival at the property, we assessed the damage that had been done by the brick acid that had been wrongly and should never be used on limestone. The news wasn’t good – it looked like the acid had just been poured over the entire patio surface. At first we honestly thought there was no hope of saving the limestone patio in the picture below, other than a process of limestone honing or limestone grinding. This would have been a costly process for the client, and completely out of their budget – especially as they had just spent almost £20,000 on having the patio laid.
First, we cleaned the limestone surface using high pressure with a rotating nozzle. We hoped this would initially remove some of the built up acid residue, and we made a little headway. We then used a traditional fan jet with super-heated steam using temperatures up to 150 degrees. Again, this made a little more improvement. Finally, we investigated which specialist chemicals would give the best results to pull the black back through. As you can see, we did this successfully and the improvement in the overall finish to the limestone patio was fantastic. The whole process was very time consuming, but the results were amazing, and the client asked us to maintain this patio on an annual basis.”
Certain stone – in this case black limestone – is very delicate and needs the right process and the right chemicals. At Pressure Fresh we are one of the leading limestone restoration cleaning companies in the south, so you’re in safe hands with us.
