What time of the year should you have driveway cleaned?
On of the questions we’re asked most frequently at Pressure Fresh is ‘What time of the year should I
get my driveway cleaned?’
Many people choose to have their driveways cleaned in preparation for the summer period but we
would recommend cleaning them regularly all year round because a dirty driveway can be a health
hazard as well as a slip hazard – especially in the winter months when moss and green algae harden
and can turn a driveway into an ice-rink!
At Pressure Fresh we use industrial standard equipment including a diesel fired Mazzoni boiler which
produces super heated steam/water with temperatures up to 150 degrees. Not only is it a great way
to clean oil stains from driveways, but it also kills off most biofilms such as algae, mould, lichens and
black spot.

This driveway was cleaned in the winter as it had become a slip hazard.
First we’ll wash the driveway with high pressure jet washing techniques and then we’ll chemically
treat the driveway with a mixture of sodium hypochlorite and amine. Sodium hypochlorite is a very
strong bleach and amine is a surfactant which helps the bleach dwell on the surface which ensures
the best results.
If the driveway is block paved, the final step is to re-sand the drive with kiln dried sand. The results
are evident in the above picture.
So, when should you get your driveway cleaned? Simple: when it’s dirty!
There is no specific time to clean a driveway which is why we work all year round keeping local
driveways in Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and Dorset clean. For further information on our services
please contact a member of our team. Free test patch service available on request.
