How to remove algae off of walls?

How to remove algae off of walls?

Algae can be an unsightly problem on walls and other surfaces both inside and outside your home. Fortunately at pressure fresh we will awnser some of questions that are asked of us, there are some relatively easy ways to get rid of the algae. In this blog, we’ll go over the steps needed to remove algae from walls.

Step 1: Identify the Algae.

The first step in removing algae is to identify what type of algae you’re dealing with. Algae can come in many different shapes and sizes. Some types of algae, such as green algae, red algae, are often found on walls, while other types like black algae are more commonly found in swimming pools or the dreaded black spot which is commonly found on driveways and patios and is something we specailise in as after years of black spot removal at presure fresh. Identifying the type of algae you’re dealing with will help you determine the best course of action to take.

Step 2:

Clean the Wall Once you’ve identified the type of algae you’re dealing with.

Then it’s time to start cleaning the wall. Start by doing a test patch on the area to be cleaned by using a spray bottle to apply the chemical you have decided to use and most high alkalide chemicals work well with algae . This will help ensure that any cleaning product you use to be able will be able to penetrate the algae.

Step 3:

Apply a Cleaning Product. it is time to apply a cleaning product, sodium hypoclorite works very well with algae removal but experience is needed in the application of sodium hypoclorite as it can and will damage many surfaces and many proffessional use sodium hypoclorite. There are many different types of algae-removal products available, so be sure to select one that’s appropriate for the type of algae you’re dealing with. Most products will require you to mix the solution with water and then apply it to the wall. After applying the cleaning solution, let it sit for the amount of time recommended by the manufacturer.

Step 4: depending on the surface of the wall that is to be cleaned you could gently agititate the area with a soft brush and Once the cleaning solution has had a chance to start to remove and clean the algae away , it’s time to rinse the surface and depending on the surface of the wall it is imortant to to use the right tecninique as some surfaces need high pressure cleaning and others need rinsing gently.

Step 5: Rinse the Wall Once you have applied your chemical unless the chemical is to be left on as is the case with biocides as not only do biocides clean the area they also act over a long period of time in algae prevention., so refer to the guidlines of the chemical being used and use a garden hose or pressure washer to thoroughly rinse the wall if for instance sodium hypoclorite is being used. This will help ensure that any remaining algae and cleaning solution are removed.

Step 6: Prevent Future Algae Growth.

Now that the wall is clean, it’s time to take steps to prevent future algae growth. To do this, you’ll want to make sure the wall is kept clean and dry. If possible, try to keep the wall out of direct sunlight and away from humid areas. If there is a persistent algae problem, you may want to consider applying a preventative algae-fighting product as in mentioned above a biocide.
